The Spirit Evergreen
The Spirit Evergreen
A cardinal, the symbol in many a culture of the human soul or spirit, holds evergreen sprigs in its beak. One of these is the Yew, famed for its presence in the English churchyard and many a graveyard in Western Europe, it symbolizes eternal life, as does its neighbor, the white pine, for its year round foliage.
A unity of winter vestiges make this painting a year round reminder of the endurance of the human spirit through these trying times. (May they someday cease to be “unprecedented” and become much more mundane soon!)
